There are moments in community advocacy when an initial proposal transforms into a vibrant, full-room reality that leaves a profound impact on everyone involved.
On October 13, 2026, that vision came to life at BPK9 International Hospital, where a large gathering of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs)—predominantly Filipino teachers in Thailand—successfully completed an intensive, hands-on CPR & Basic First Aid Training program.
From Concept to Reality: Navigating Bangkok’s Weather Challenges
When I originally conceptualized and submitted this project proposal to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in Bangkok, the mission was straightforward: empower our kababayans with practical, life-saving competencies they can apply in schools, workplaces, and local communities.
Our initial launch was slated for September 27, 2026. However, severe flooding across parts of Bangkok required us to postpone for everyone’s safety. Thanks to the incredible flexibility and unwavering commitment of our government partners and hospital teams, the event was seamlessly rescheduled and triumphantly held on October 13, 2026!
A Synergy of Leadership & Collaboration
This capacity-building initiative flourished because of exceptional institutional backing and dedicated teamwork:
-
Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) & OWWA Bangkok: Special recognition goes to Labor Attaché Don Albert Philippe C. Pangcog and Welfare Officer Ronald Mina. Their prompt support, official endorsement, and sponsorship elevated a grassroots proposal into a flagship welfare program.
-
BPK9 International Hospital: Heartfelt appreciation goes to Ms. Anne Diel, Assistant International Marketing Director at BPK9 International Hospital. As a fellow Filipina, Ms. Anne played an instrumental role in coordinating logistics, managing venue arrangements, and bringing this partnership to life.
-
Medical Instruction & Support: Deep gratitude is owed to Dr. Natnicha Kachornvitaya and the hospital’s Emergency Medical Services Unit. Their expert-led instruction made complex resuscitation protocols, AED operations, and first-aid techniques engaging, practical, and accessible for every participant.
Both the Department of Migrant Workers Official Facebook Page and the BPK9 International Hospital Official Facebook Page proudly featured highlights of this successful collaboration, showcasing the strong community impact of our Filipino teachers stepping up as trained first responders.
Core Training Modules & Hands-on Learning
Throughout the comprehensive session, participants actively engaged in vital emergency preparedness modules:
-
High-Quality CPR: Practicing correct chest compression depth, rhythm, and rescue breathing for adult, child, and infant scenarios.
-
Automated External Defibrillator (AED): Learning safe operation and integration of AEDs during cardiac events.
-
Choking Management: Mastering the Heimlich maneuver and airway obstruction relief techniques.
-
First Aid & Wound Care: Hands-on practice with bandaging, dressing wounds, and managing common school or workspace injuries.
Looking Forward: Empowering Resilient Communities
Watching our teachers perform compressions on simulation mannequins with incredible energy and focus reaffirmed why proactive community work is so vital. Beyond earning their official certificates, every attendee walked away empowered with the confidence and capability to save a life.
Thank you to everyone who supported this initiative from day one! Let’s continue building safer, stronger, and more resilient Filipino communities across Thailand.
